๐ Call 770-493-1922Which Situation Applies to You?
The process for becoming a patient depends on whether you are new to methadone treatment or are currently enrolled at another methadone clinic. Both pathways are straightforward โ and in both cases, you can begin receiving medication on your first visit.
I Have Never Been in a Methadone Program
If you have never been enrolled in a methadone clinic before, the process starts with a brief phone evaluation โ approximately ten minutes โ to help determine whether methadone maintenance therapy is the right clinical choice for your situation.
If you meet the criteria for admission, you will be asked to come to our clinic on the next available intake day:
- Arrive at 6:00 AM on a Tuesday or Thursday
- You will meet with our physician for an evaluation
- Complete the required paperwork and admission process
- Receive your first dose of medication that same day
I Am Transferring From Another Methadone Program
If you are currently enrolled at another methadone clinic and wish to transfer your care to GPA Treatment, the process is designed to be as seamless as possible โ with no gap in your medication.
- Call us to schedule your transfer admission
- Sign a release of information at your current clinic or at ours
- We will contact your current clinic directly to obtain your dose and phase information
- You will remain on your current take-home schedule upon transfer
- If your current dose was not adequately managing your symptoms, our physician may adjust it on the day of admission

Individualized Dosing
Medication doses at GPA Treatment are individualized to each patient to optimize the success of treatment. Your starting dose is established by our physician during your intake evaluation based on your clinical history, current tolerance, and individual treatment needs.
Doses are reviewed and adjusted over time in collaboration with your physician and counselor. Transfer patients will generally begin at their current dose, with the option for the physician to adjust on the day of admission if the existing dose is not adequately managing symptoms.
Take-Home Medication
Patients who demonstrate program compliance and meet federal and state eligibility requirements may earn take-home medication doses over time. Transfer patients retain their existing take-home schedule upon admission.
